How Often Should You Get Your Eyes Tested?
Your eyes can change without you noticing. Here is how often adults, children and people over 40 should have an eye test.
Many vision problems develop slowly, so you may not notice them until they affect your work, driving or screen time. A regular eye test keeps your prescription accurate and helps catch problems early.
Recommended schedule
- Adults (18–40): every 2 years, or every year if you already wear glasses.
- Adults over 40: every year. Near vision usually starts to change after 40, and you may need reading or progressive lenses.
- Children: before starting school, then every year. Children rarely complain about blurry vision.
- Diabetes or high blood pressure: every year, as advised by your doctor.
Signs you should not wait
- Headaches after reading or screen use
- Squinting to see the TV or road signs
- Holding your phone further away to read
- Tired, watery or dry eyes at the end of the day
