Choosing Glasses for Kids: A Parent's Guide
Comfortable, strong and the right size – what to look for when buying your child their first pair of glasses.
Children are active, grow quickly and are not always gentle with their things. The right frame makes them want to wear their glasses all day.
What to look for
- Right size: the frame should not stick out beyond the sides of the face. Most kids need a small size.
- Light, flexible material: lightweight frames are more comfortable and less likely to break.
- Good nose fit: the frame should sit on the nose without sliding down.
- Impact-resistant lenses: safer for play and sports.
- Blue cut coating: useful for online classes and tablets.
Let them choose
Children are more likely to wear glasses they like. Let them pick the colour and style from a few options that fit well.
Check every year
A child's prescription can change quickly. Book an eye test every year, or sooner if they squint or sit close to the TV.
